How to Get Along with People (Ephesians 4:1-3)

Three Things Needed in “Forbearing One Another in Love”

1. Lowliness – Not considering yourself smarter or more able or better than the person who irritates you.

“Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”    Philippians 2:2-7

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”   Matthew 11:29

2. Meekness – Gentleness, mildness of temperance, not helpless but having every instinct, desire, thought or word under God’s control.

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”   Matthew 11:29

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”   Proverbs 15:1

3. Longsuffering – Slow to avenge wrong, slow to retaliate when someone hurts you.

“He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.”    Luke 13:6-9

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”   2 Peter 3:9

Ephesians 3:20; Galatians 5:16, 22-23
