How to Give a Testimony (Revelation 12:9, 11)
I. Pre-requisites for Giving a Testimony
A. A true salvation experience. (Romans 3:23, 5:8, 10:9-10)
B. An assurance of salvation. (1 John 5:13)
C. A life that backs up the testimony. (Matthew 25:3; James 2:14-20)
II. False Ideas Concerning a Testimony
A. You need to know the exact time you were saved.
B. You need to know much about the Bible before giving a testimony. (John 9)
C. You need to be a good speaker.
III. Preparation of Testimony
A. It will require time, thought, prayer and experience for it to be most effective.
B. In practicing it you may want to put it in an outline form.
IV. Thing to Include in a Testimony
A. Honest statements.
B. God’s faithfulness since your salvation.
C. Assurance of salvation.
D. An account of how you were saved.
V. Things to Avoid
A. Meaningless statements.
B. A “holier than thou” impression.
C. Terms that are not understood without explanation of meaning. (e.g. Saved, Born Again)
D. Naming denominations.
E. Exalting sin.
