1. It will give us an intimate knowledge of how to skillfully make the right choices at the right time.
2. It will give us correction so we can be wise.
3. It will help us discern the words of wisdom.
4. It will help the naive gain cleverness.
5. It will help the wise continue to grow.
What is the Foundation for True Wisdom (Job 28; Proverbs 1:7)
Some history …
Socrates: “Question everything to find wisdom.”
Aristotle: “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
Buddhism: “Truth is gained by an inward journey to quench your desires.”
Postmodernism: “There is no truth.”
I. Defining the Fear of the Lord.
-The fear of the Lord is to have the proper understanding of God that results in reverential awe, worship, and submission.
–“The fear of the Lord means that He is supreme in one’s life, that all of life is ordered by one’s relationship with Him.”
II. Displaying the Fear of the Lord.
A. We will not follow our own thoughts. (Proverbs 3:7)
B. We will hate sin because God hates sin. (Proverbs 8:13, 23:17)
C. We will depart from sin. (Proverbs 3:7, 16:6)
D. We will live righteously. (Proverbs 14:2)
III. Benefits of the Fear of the Lord.
A. Confidence & security (Proverbs 14:26)
B. True Life (Proverbs 14:27)
C. Protection (Proverbs 10:27, 19:23)
D. True beauty & glory (Proverbs 31:30)
E. True wisdom for everyday living.
“But fools despise wisdom & instructions.”
