Overview of Wisdom – Part 1 (Proverbs 1:8-33)

Review:

2. The Foundation for Wisdom (Proverbs 1:7)

 

I. Wisdom is Readily Accessibly (Proverbs 1:20-23; 8:1-5)

II. Wisdom is Given by God (Proverbs 2:6-8)

III. We must Respond to Wisdom (Proverbs 1:10-19; 9:13-18)

A. Rejecting Wisdom

1. Ways we can reject wisdom:

a. Enticement by sin/foolishness (Proverbs 1:10-19; 9:13-18)

b. Contentment with your current state (Proverbs 1:22, 32)

c. Laughing at wisdom (Proverbs 1:22; 9:7)

“He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked [man getteth] himself a blot.” Proverbs 9:7

d. Hatred for knowledge (Proverbs 1:22, 29)

e. Forgetfulness of wisdom (Proverbs 3:1, 3, 21)

f. Pride in our own wisdom (Proverbs 3:5-7)

2. Curses for rejecting wisdom:

a. Future calamity and fear (Proverbs 1:26-27)

b. Removal of an opportunity for wisdom (Proverbs 1:28)

Questions for personal evaluation:

– Have you allowed yourself to be enticed by sin?

– Have you been content with you current state of wisdom?

– Have you laughed at godly, Biblical advice?

– Have you been simply rejecting God’s wisdom?

– Have you been forgetful of wisdom that you maybe once had?

-Have you been proud in your own wisdom always assuming you have all of the answers?
