Wisdom for Parents and Children

  • Look Back (Proverbs 4:3)
  • Have the Right Focus

Proverbs 22:6

  • I am preparing my children for the future
  • I am pushing my children toward God

Proverbs 22:15; 29:15

Our children (just like ourselves) are naturally sinners. Our children need us to rain them to love for the Lord.

I. Give Instruction to Your Children (Proverbs 1:8-9)

A. Prepare them for temptation (Proverbs 1:1)

B. Confront the sin (Proverbs 29:17)

C. Get to the heart of the issue (Proverbs 20:11)

II. Discipline Your Children (Proverbs 3:12, 13:24, 19:18, 23:13-14, 29:15, 17)

A. Discipline in Love (Proverbs 3:12, 13:24)

B. Discipline as often as necessary (Proverbs 13:24)

C. Discipline for a purpose (Proverbs 29:15)

III. Emphasize Your Children’s Relationship with God (Proverbs 2:1-5, 24:21, 28:7, 30:17)

IV. Show the Results of Obedience and Disobedience (Proverbs 23:15, 10:1, 15:20)

I need my parents to teach me what is right.

I. Pat Attention to and Remember Your Parent’s Instruction (Proverbs 1:8, 3:1, 5:1, 6:20)

II. Accept Discipline – Don’t Hate It (Proverbs 3:11, 15:5)

III. Read and Obey the Bible and Form a Relationship with God.

IV. Remember that there are rewards for obedience and consequences for disobedience.

A. Obedience makes your parents glad.

B. Disobedience makes your parents sad.

C. Disobedience can hurt your parents.

D. God is watching and will repay you with blessings or consequences.
