Wisdom & Purity (Proverbs 5)
I. Recognize the Temptation (Proverbs 5:1-6)
A. Its Power.
1. It is very real.
2. It is very seductive. (Proverbs 5:3, 6:24-25, 7:5, 7:14-21, 7:26)
- She promises newlywed type pleasure. (Proverbs 5:3; see Song of Solomon 4:11)
- She is seductive in dress. (Proverbs 7:10, 6:25)
- She is seductive in manner. (Proverbs 7:13)
- She flatters with seductive speech. (Proverbs 6:24, 7:5, 21)
- She promises devotion. (Proverbs 7:15)
- She promises fulfilled desire & love. (Proverbs 7:16-18)
- She promises security. (Proverbs 7:19-20)
3. It is very tricky. (Proverbs 5:6, 7:10-12)
4. It is addictive. (proverbs 5:22)
B. Its Mask
1. It is very wicked (Proverbs 5:4-6, 6:24)
2. It is very harmful. (Proverbs 5:9-14, 6:26-35)
“For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.” 2 Corinthians 7:11
II. Remove Yourself (Proverbs 5:7-8)
III. Rejoice with Your Spouse (Proverbs 5:15-20)
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” Proverbs 18:22
“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” Hebrews 13:4
